Handy Hook Patent

Glove Holder

A holder for a glove that includes a support arm and a catch arm. The support arm has first and second portions spaced apart along a longitudinal axis and an inner face that faces in a first direction along an axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. The catch arm has a first end portion connected to the first end portion of the support arm and a free second end portion spaced apart from the first end portion of the catch arm along the longitudinal axis. The catch arm has an inner face facing disposed in adjacent, face-to-face relationship with a portion of the inner face of the support arm such that the holder defines a glove retention area between the support arm and the catch arm. The holder grips a portion of a cuff of the glove in the glove retention area, retaining the glove.

Product Q&A

How will they hold up in a house fire?

Hold up well! They begin to fail after several min in over 400f. I haven’t had fail yet except with testing. Also, Being mounted on your pants, lower to the ground helps with high temp situations.

What about Entanglements?

The New Dog Ear backplates hold the Handy Hooks so well to your bunkers that in order to remove them from your gear you would have to either tear your gear or break the Hooks. Both options are very difficult. I suggest training on simply running your gloved hand in a downward motion over the top of the Handy Hook to remove any entanglement that has possibly become wedged in the Hook.

I have a bailout in my right pocket would I still be able to use this?

I’ve mounted them on bailout pockets but might have to mount to the side instead of the front.

How about with gauntlets?

Handy Hook works to grab the rolled sewn cuff of the leather glove. If you have cotton or nomex gauntlets, you can roll the gauntlet inside your glove so the Handy Hook can grab the rolled sewn leather cuff.

So the gloves will stay attached until you push that lever down and push your hands in?

They won't pop off if you're brushing up against stuff constantly?

The locks keep the gloves in place very well and the addition of the C-Lock has been a game changer in the reliability of Handy Hook securely holding your gloves until you are ready to don quickly. The C-Lock acts like a safety on your gun. Leave the C-Lock in place during your everyday ordinary calls and remove when you're en route to a structure fire where you know you'll be needing them. The regular lock will still hold the gloves securely until you're ready to don either in the rig, while walking towards the fire or right after masking up.

How well do they work with long cuffs?

The extra long gauntlets will not work well with Handy Hook.

Why are none of these shown with a coat on? Does the coat grab?

They land just below the bottom of my coat when mounted on the bunker pant pocket. The gear is designed to not cover your pants pockets. As long as you don’t mount above the pocket they will work.

Is this something to keep on all the time during other calls and they stay with no issue until use?

Yes they will hold firm during calls, the implementation of the New C-Locks ensuring your gloves will Never Unlock prematurely has made Handy Hook the MOST reliable glove holding option on the market today.

How’s their durability?

I have yet to break one on the job. I asked a bear that I work with to try and break them and he had to adjust his grip three times before he could.

What if one of our pant pockets is a personal escape system?

If you’re talking about the pocket being completely lined with leather? I’ve personally mounted them to the pocket. It’s tight but works well and you may have to adjust the exact placement so they won't interfere with your bail out gear.
